A True Barn Find; Jim’s 1966 Q Code Thunderbird

This 1966 Ford Thunderbird was found in a shed that was open, exposing it to weather and vandals, but it’s all there and on its way to restoration.

The current owner bought this 1966 Ford Thunderbird Q-code, 428 CJ from the original owner.  The T-bird was found at the same address where the vehicle was registered and titled when the original owner purchased the vehicle new in 1966.  The vehicle was last registered in 1978 and had been sitting since approximately 1986, only started a few times and not driven since then.  The T-bird only has 52,000 original miles!  The vehicle was found in a shed that was open, exposing it to weather and vandals.  Some of the windows were smashed out and the rear taillights had been shot out with a bb gun.  The tires were flat and the vehicle was sitting in the dirt on it’s frame.

The 1966 T-bird was a highly optioned vehicle with numerous power options, including power windows, power seat, power antennae.  All of power options are still working including the sequential turn signals.  The paint is oxidized but the body is straight and rust free.

The new owner rebuilt the carburetor, changed the oil, changed the spark plugs, replaced the gas tank and fuel lines and battery and the car started right up!  “Built Ford Tough baby.”  The broken glass has been replaced and the brake system replaced…. there is a long road ahead to “restoration,” but this beauty is a gem in her owner’s eye.
