The 2012 Historic Route 66 Fun Run

Seligman, Arizona (May 6, 2012) — Seligman, Arizona was the starting point of the 2012 Route 66 Fun Run.  Gilbert’s Dirk Howard and some 832 other automotive enthusiasts gathered in the small northwestern Arizona town on Friday for a day of socializing and the kick off parade.

The 800 plus cars and their enthusiast drivers and passengers rolled out of Seligman on Saturday morning.  Their destination? Kingman.  After rolling in to Kingman, participants in the Route 66 Fun Run gathered for a car show.  Sunday morning brought about a cruise from Kingman to Oatman, and then its final destination of Topoc.  All of the routes travelled during the fun run were on Historic Route 66.

After arriving in Topoc awards were handed out to those lucky enough to win one.  Dirk Howard and his beautifully restored 1973 Mustang convertible took a first place award for Best Mustang Convertible.  Congratulations Dirk!

The Route 66 Fun Run is put on by the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona.  The association is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion and protection of Historic Route 66 and its memories.  Click here to learn more about them.

One of Dirk’s favorite parts of this three-day journey was carving up the corners in his classic Mustang on the return trip from Topoc.  With little to no traffic on the road, Dirk made use of every inch of the asphalt.  This was Dirk’s first time participating in the Historic Route 66 Fun Run.  After hearing him speak of his adventure, we here at Arizona Auto Scene don’t think it will be his last.

Scroll down and enjoy some of Dirk’s photos from the 2012 Route 66 Fun Run.

Very cool Dirk, we used to live in the area Bullhead City AZ and did route 66 in both directions several times. Very scenic! Congrats for winning on my favorite vehicle since 1965 Ford Mustang!!
