All Out Drag Racing: A Contest of Speed that Can Be Done Legally in Your Own Back Yard.

Chandler, Arizona (May 11, 2012) – Drag racing is a form of motorsport in which competitors race side by side down a quarter mile strip.  In the end, only one race car and driver remain to claim the victory.

Since people have been able to go faster than they can run, there have been contests of speed.  Be it a rider on a horse, a horse drawn chariot, or a motor vehicle powered by multiple “horse power,” generations of out relatives have called out another to see who had the faster ride.

Local drag raceways offer the opportunity to take on a competitor in an environment that is safe and legal.  Firebird International Raceway is just one of the few here in the state ofArizona.  Throughout the year, Firebird Raceway schedules Friday Night “Run what you brung” Drag Racing on their quarter mile strip best known for hosting the NHRA Arizona Nationals.

This Friday, everything from an 11+ second Nissan GTR to 10 second door slammers could be challenged on the track.  Nitrous, turbo chargers and super chargers gave those looking for a better ET a bit more power, but in the end it often came down to reaction time.

Head on out to the drag strip and put your ride head to head with your that of your friend.  Take on that person who’s always’ talking smack.  But in the end, do everyone a favor and take it to the track and keep it off the streets.  Earn respect for going fast, not a speeding ticket or worse, a stint in the Round Bar Hotel.  Time slips are better than tickets.  Hit Firebird Raceway or one of our other local drag strips to test both you and your ride.

Scroll down to take a look at some of Friday’s action from the track.
