Mike T’s 1968 Shelby Mustang Tribute Project

Mike’s 1968 Mustang may still be a work in progress as it is morphed into a Shelby tribute car, but he wanted to share it with Arizona Auto Scene’s readers. Mike has been working on his “Lil Red Mustang” on and off for five years.

Beginning life as a coupe, Mike has added a Shelby hood, trunk lid, tail light panel and side scoops so the Mustang could take on that iconic Shelby appearance.

The Mustang is powered by the original engine that has been stroked to a 332 ci power plant. Air and fuel are fed to the engine through a pair of Pro Comp aluminum heads. Mike rebuild a C4 transmission himself. The power is put to the ground through an 8 inch 3:35 limited slip posi rear end that Mike and his dad rebuilt. The engine work was performed by Ramiro Racing in Mike’s home state of Illinois.

The interior in the Mustang is an original style Deluxe package. Mike changed the gauge faces to white. Mike recovered the seats and has plans for a custom center console in the future. A Sony sound system puts out Mike’s favorite tunes.

Mike relocated to from Illinois to San Tan Valley about seven months ago and has since joined the Senior Rodders of Arizona in Apache Junction. He’s looking forward to completing the Shelby tribute Mustang and driving it to future Arizona car shows and events.

Welcome to Arizona Mike!

Keep us updated on the status of the Shelby. We look forward to meeting you and seeing the Mustang out in the car show and cruise night scene.
