Arizona Race Company: Building Speed with Passion & Experience

IMG_1375

Chandler, ARIZ. (June 3, 2013) – Arizona Auto Scene spends plenty of time at the track.  We see a lot of race cars at both drag racing and road racing events, but there are a few that are sure to grab our attention every time we see them.

One of the cars that is sure to grab our attention every time is Bruce McConnell’s 1946 Dodge.  It’s not just the face that the truck is beautiful to look at.  It’s a combination of the beauty, the meticulous work that went into its build, and the fact that this 4,000 pound, all steel beast can run as fast as its 8.50 certification allows.  The 91 mm turbo power plant in this monster puts out 1,370 horsepower and is the creation of Arizona Race Company located in Chandler.

Arizona Race CompanyDoug Driggers, owner of Arizona Race Company and pilot of the ’46 Dodge has been into racing for 25 years.  He has been the track champion at his home track in Albuquerque, NM, toured the circuit racing in the NMRA Super Street Outlaw class, and recognized for his experience and capabilities, also server two years as a Technical Official with the NMRA.

Doug moved to Arizona in 1991 and continued with his passion of building race cars and hot rods.  Against the advice of friends due to the instability in the economy three years ago, Doug stepped outside of their comfort zone by renting a 5,000 square foot shop and starting the Arizona Race Company.  Word of mouth, reputation and the quality of the creations rolling out of the Arizona Race Company’s shop have brought them to where they are today.

Presently, the Arizona Race Company is a three man operation with a combined 55 years of experience.  Their specialty is in the power train.  Engine builds, transmissions, suspensions, carburetors, fuel systems, electronics and electrical components may be their specialty as they do a lot of race car, muscle car and street rod builds, but they can also take care of any of your general automotive repairs.  Just about the only thing that is outsourced is body and paint work.

Arizona Race CompanyArizona Race Company can not only build your race car, but they will also come out to the track to help with the fine tuning of your bullet that rolls out of their show.  We’ve seen them at the track helping Brett Hewson tune his mid 50’s Ford pickup truck.  While we were at the shop, we saw that Wayne Hendrix has his Ford Anglia in for a little TLC.

Doug says there’s nothing more fulfilling than the thrill in their face after a customer fires up their ride for the first time or the handshake and hug that comes after they get out of the car after the first pass or lap on the track.

Arizona Race Company’s best accomplishment to date is Bruce McConnell’s 46 Dodge pickup truck.  With 5.30 1/8 mile passes at 133 mph and 8.50 1/4 mile passes at 161 mph, who wouldn’t agree?

Whether your are looking for a reliable hot rod or a bad ass race car, Arizona Race Company can deliver the goods.

Arizona Race Company is located at 501 E. Chicago Circle, Chandler, AZ.  They can be reached at azraceco@gmail.com or by calling (480) 703-7313.
