Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series World Finals’ Eliminations from the Lake at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

The 2013 Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series' World Finals Eliminations from Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

Chandler, ARIZ. (November 3, 2013) – The Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series put on an awesome show this weekend during the World Finals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.  Engines detonated causing huge fireballs on some boats while others fell victim to the lake.  Thankfully, nobody was injured during the four days of racing.

The 2013 Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series' World Finals Eliminations from Wild Horse Pass Motorsports ParkWith stunning fireballs and one horrific crash, Top Fuel Hydro certainly had the fans on their feet and the crews on their toes.  Points leader Daryl “Madd Maxx” Ehrlich and Eddie Knox Racing’s Problem Child rolled into the Valley with a new boat and 610 points ahead of  Bryan Sanders and Tequila Sunrise.  In both the first and second rounds of qualifying, Madd Maxx and the Problem Child shot down the track straight as an arrow.  Their very first qualifying pass put a 3.57 at 254 mph on the score board.  Problem Child improved during during the second round of qualifying, running a 3.48 at 254 mph.  During the third round of qualifying the W-drive broke, sending Ehrlich on one hell of a ride.  Shortly after crossing the starting beams on the boats third pass ever, it turned hard to the right, digging in and rolling a couple of times before sinking.  Debris was everywhere as the Lucas Oil Rescue Crews dove in and pulled Daryl’s capsule from the lake.  Daryl was OK, hanging his hand out of the capsule with a thumbs up before they had even lowered him onto the rescue boat.  He was back in the Problem Child pits a short time late.  Though he was a bit wet, he had a huge smile on his face as he greeted friends and fans.

The 2013 Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series' World Finals Eliminations from Wild Horse Pass Motorsports ParkWith the old boat on hand, Eddie Know Racing and the Problem Child crew crew immediately began getting it ready to compete in Sunday’s world Finals.  After battling a downpour of rain and working into the night, Eddie Knox Racing and the Problem Child’s crew had the old hull ready to race.  By 9:00 pm on Saturday the storm had passed and the Problem Child was fired and putting nitro into the night’ air.

Saturday morning was anybody’s guess as the Daryl and the Problem Child made their way to the starting line during the first round of eliminations.  Toxic Rocket and Whiskey River were up on the line first.  Though they through a blower belt, Whiskey River took the win.  Hot Licks and Tequila Sunrise were up next.  Hot Licks took an easy win as Tequila Sunrise experienced a malfunction.  By the time Hot Licks crossed the finish line she was putting out some hot flames after expiring an engine.

Next up was Problem Child and The Spirit of Texas.  The Problem Child launched hard and fast.  Daryl cut a 0.06 light and ran a 260.23 mile per hour run.  The Spirit of Texas experienced difficulties shortly after the start and Daryl took an easy win with a clean run down his lane.

During the second round of eliminations, Hot Licks closed the capsule on the rope causing a DQ, sending Whiskey River to the finals.

The final round of eliminations saw Problem Child and Whiskey River paired on the starting line.  Whiskey River in the right lane and Problem Child in the left.  After launching, both the Whiskey River pulled left.  Whiskey River crossed the center line into Ehrlich’s lane and Ehrlich left the race track.  After reviewing teh race, Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Officials determined that Whiskey River crossed the center line into Ehrlich’s lane before Ehrlich left the track.  They also said Whiskey River’s violation not only occurred before Daryl’s, but it was a more serious violation as they had crossed into an opponent’s lane.  Eddie Knox Racing, Daryl Ehrlich and the Problem Child not only overcame a catastrophic weekend, but they won the 2013 Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series World Finals and secured the Championship for the fifth year in a row.

The 2013 Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series' World Finals Eliminations from Wild Horse Pass Motorsports ParkIn Top Alcohol Hyro, Bob Pizza took the win after running a 4.40 at 210 mph.  Piazza not only earned the win, but he set a new mph record while doing it.

Bill Miller and Party to the Max took the win in Top Alcohol Flat after Randy Ball went red on the start.

Pro Mod saw Kevin Helm and the The Oklahoman and paired at the start for the finals.  Helm was the number 3 qualifier while Maderer was the number 7 qualifier.  The up and coming Maderer piloted the Outta Reach through the beams first and took the World Finals win in his class.

The final round of Cracker Box Pro was pretty exciting.  Mr. Magoo stuck the nose ans swung the boat around on turn 4 of the first lap.  The boat took on water and did not finish.  Based on our observations, the P-74 Pro took the win.

The Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series provided an excellent weekend of racing in the Valley of the Sun.

Congratulations to this weekend’s Winners and this season’s Champions.
