Alexis DeJoria Takes Her First Ever Top Fuel Funny Car Win Today at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals in Chandler

Brown, Dejoria and Johnson take the Win Lights in the Final Rounds at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals

Chandler, ARIZ. (February 23, 2014) –  One week after making history in Pomona by officially becoming the quickest female ever to compete in the Funny Car category, Alexis DeJoria became the fourth female Funny Car driver to win a NHRA national event.  It was also her very first national event win in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

Today, in Chandler during the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, Alexis had a run of 4.043 at 309.63 mph in the final round of eliminations.  Her run was good enough to beat driver Robert Hight, a seasoned racer in the Funny Car category. Interesting note; Alexis eliminated her driving instructor Del Worsham in her quest for the Wally on Sunday.  She also took down track speed and ET record setter John Force in the third round of eliminations for her spot in the finals.

I had a chance to sit down with Alexis before elimination rounds on Saturday.

With a new set up and a different way of tuning her Toyota Camry Alexis said, “I feel really good about a possible win this weekend. We’re finally getting some consistency in the car.” Alexis praised her crew for the hard work and dedication. She mentioned that one of the crew members had injured his ankle and was not able to fully perform his duties; her husband Jesse James is helping out by being part of the pit crew until the crew member returns to full duty.

Since her last visit to the Valley, some changes were made to the paint scheme on her Camry and the team’s colors. Still in partnership with Patron; purple, black and gray now represent the XO Café. She describes it as the finest tequila mixed with an amazing blend of coffee Alexis admits, “It’s Excellent!”

Arizona Auto Scene would like to thank Allison McCormick, Public Relations Manager for  Kalitta Motorsports Patron XO Café Toyota Camry Funny Car team. She works hard to accommodate Alexis’ fans and media. Allison is another true professional in this sport.

Congratulations to Funny Car Champion Alexis DeJoria! See you next year!
