Friday’s Qualifying for the 2014 NHRA Division 7 Season Opener at Wild Horse Pass

Friday's Qualifying for the 2014 NHRA Division 7 Season Opener at Wild Horse Pass

Chandler, ARIZ. (February 28, 2014) – Members of NHRA’s Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and other Divisions from throughout the country were at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park for the Season Opener began this weekend.  Fans can see everything from Stock Eliminator to Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars on the track as they compete for their chance to be in the elimination rounds scheduled for Sunday.

For the past few years, the Division 7 Season Opener has been a double-header, but for 2014 it’s a single event.  We’re hoping to have the back to back event return for the 2015 season.

With rain predicted for Friday night, and throughout the day on Saturday, competitors from Stock Eliminator to Super Stock were given extra round of qualifying on Friday.  The lights were turned on and Friday’s qualifying sessions ran into the night at Wild Horse pass Motorsports Park.

Though rain may have been predicted for the weekend, Friday’s race weather was awesome.  Intermittent clouds and a slight breeze cooled the air throughout the day.

Scheduled for only one qualifying run on Friday, Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars were given an extra hit in the event Saturday’s qualifications are rained out.

As it stands, weather threatens to eliminate Saturday’s qualifying for the Division 7 Season Opener.  Should the rain defeat the track on Saturday, the extra qualifying runs on Saturday will most like provide the ladder for final elimination rounds.

Local drag racer Glen Bolz most likely ran his personal best after laying down a blistering 7.25 at 193 mph in his 1966 Nova.

What Glen’s pass through multiple camera angles.  The left front wheel rarely finds the ground.

Weather permitting, qualifying will continue on Saturday.  Final eliminations are scheduled for Sunday.

Check back with Arizona Auto Scene throughout the weekend for continuing coverage of the 2014 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 Season Opener.

Qualifying results will be released in near future.
