Beatin’ the Heat with Friday Night Drag Racing at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

Beatin' the Heat with Friday Night Drag Racing at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

Chandler, ARIZ. (July 11, 2014) – Even Arizona’s mid summer heat and humidity cannot keep true motorsports enthusiasts from their passion of drag racing.  Friday’s 5 & Diner Friday Night Drags at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park are a testament to that as late model muscle cars and Top Dragsters, and everything in between were making passes down the dragstrip fulfilling their need for speed.

While some made their way to the track to take on their friends in a competition of speed on the strip, others came for far different reasons, passing on their passion, knowledge and love of drag racing to family members and loved ones.

Beatin' the Heat with Friday Night Drag Racing at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports ParkFormer Team Firebird Captain Rich Lash was at the track Friday night with his daughter McKenna and her Pontiac GrandAm GT.  Rich is an accomplished drag racer and McKenna just got her drivers license.  Rich took McKenna down the track a couple of times to give her some pointers before turning the driver’s seat over to her.  On he very first pass down the quarter mile McKenna ran a 17.669 at 79.01 mph.  Awesome!

“Big John” Coburn was also at the track with his Buell and a friend.  John was teaching his friend how to ride his race bike down the quarter mile.  Unlike a car, John is not in a position to give any advice once the rider is on the starting line and staged.  Unfortunately, the bike went down on the left side shortly after leaving the starting line.  We’re not sure about the bike, but she got up and walked away like a champ.  Big John later took the bike on a test run to make sure everything was working correctly, but spun off the start.  He did make it down the track after getting back in it.

Drag racing at the 5 & Diner Friday Night Drags offers those looking to test their car’s set up, reaction times, and race friends and foes in a safe and controlled environment.  You can’t get in caught racing at the track, just sleeping at the tree.

The 5 & Diner Friday Night Drags at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports are scheduled throughout the end of the year.  Go to RaceWildHorse.net and check out more about how you can become a part of Arizona’s drag racing and motorsports community.
