Chuck’s 1985 Street/Strip Chevrolet Camaro

tropies 2

Chuck purchased this 1985 Chevrolet Camaro on March 5, 1985 at Chapman Chevrolet, and with only 16,000 on the odometer, he’s still the owner.

With the exception of a fiberglass hood, the Camaro is still wearing its original paint.  The interior has been upgraded with Auto Meter gauges and a 6 point chromoly roll cage.

Chuck says the original drivetrain was “junk” so he upgraded it to small block 434.  At the core of the Dart block is a Callies / Mahle 13 – 1 rotating assembly.  An all roller Competition Cams valve train assembly and AFR 220 heads feeds the air/fuel mixture to the cylinders.  The fuel is delivered through the QFT / Aeromotive E-85 fuel system.  The engine was machined and assembled by Zimmerman Racing Engines.  It Dyno tested at 711 horsepower and 665 foot pounds of torque.

The horsepower and torque are fed to the rear wheels through a Hughes TH400 transmission turning an Inland aluminum drive shaft connected to an Arizona Differential 9″ rear end with 4.10 gears.

Riding on a Spohn / BMR chassis, Chuck’s Camaro is street legal, licensed and rolls on a set of drag radials.  On the track it’s legal to 10.0 or slower.  Chuck had to back the power down to keep it legal on the track, but it’s still a beast on the street.
