GoFast Entertainment’s Drift & Drags put on an Awesome Show Saturday Night at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

Go Fast Entertainment's Drift & Drags from Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

Chandler, ARIZ. (August 24, 2014) – It just keeps getting better and better with each new event.  GoFast Entertainment’s Drift & Drags keep pulling them in to Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler.  With each event the numbers of both racers and spectators are increasing.

With temperatures under 100 degrees, the weather couldn’t have been better for a mid August night in the Valley of the Sun.  Saturday night’s Drift & Drags brought in 88 Drifters, 92 Drag Racers and just over 1,000 fans to take in the action.  This is the first Drift & Drag we’ve been to where the drag racers out numbered the drifters.

While the drifters sashayed their way through the drift circuit on the lower pad, the drag racers were treated to a well prepped track that was able to handle some big horsepower.  Chuck Sundstrom used his knowledge and experience to massage the track into shape before the event kicked off and kept up with it throughout the night.

The drift portion brought in some great new competitors and there were some big horsepower cars that made it out to the dragstrip.  AMP Performance was out at the track with a twin turbo Mustang, that even getting out of the groove and shutting down somewhere around the 1,000 foot mark, still managed to put down an 8.80.  If you are a Gen 3 Toyota Supra fan, Saturday night was your night.  There were at least 7 of them hot lapping on the dragstrip.

Racers running in the Gambler were divided into Electronics and Non-Electronics classes.  In the Non-Electronics class, Tempe’s Mike Gonnell and his 1969 Nova met Glandale’s Mark Ocampo and his 1968 Mustang GT at the tree.  With a .050 reaction time, Mike would get off the line first, running an 11.075 at 120.26 MPH.  Mark cut a .065 light and went on to run a 10.893 at 119.02 MPH for the win.  Tanner Sundstrom was the no. 1 qualifier in the Non-Electronics class Saturday.

The Electronics class would see Chandler’s Bruce Williams and his 2000 Yancer Dragster and Gilbert’s Tanner Sundstrom (driving Chuck Sundstrom’s 2004 Chevrolet 2500 HD) paired at the tree for the final round of eliminations.  When the tree dropped, Tanner went red by -.056, running a 17.467 at 80.77 MPH.  Bruce had a .085 light and went on to run a 7.895 at 168.05 MPH for the Electronics win.  Bruce was the No. 1 qualifier in the Electronics class Saturday night.

The Drift winners will be announced at the end of GoFast Entertainment’s Drift & Drag Summer Series.

Thanks to Jessica Cherry in Race Control for Saturday night’s race results.

The next Drift & Drag is scheduled for Saturday, September 20th.  There’s a good chance that the drag racing will steal the show at this event as there’s going to be some good old fashioned 1/8 mile heads up racing.  The 1/8th mile drag race is expected to attract some high horsepower cars to the dragstrip at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.  Putting down a couple thousand horsepower in the 18th mile can be tricky and makes for some exciting racing.  Check it out for yourself next month.

GoFAST Entertainment is the brainchild of former Firebird International Raceway Track Manager Chuck Sundstrom and Keith Bergh.  With years of experience at the facility, they know how to get it done, just as they did again this past Saturday.

Arizona Auto Scene took just over 250 photos of the drifting and drag racing action on the track.  Scroll down and check them out.
