ADRA Members Compete in their 2014 Memorial Race, sharing the Strip with American DRAGCAR and a King of the Track Race at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

Arizona Drag Racing Associations's (ADRA) Memorial Race

Chandler, ARIZ. (November 15, 2014) – Members of the Arizona Drag Racing Association (ADRA) raced Saturday at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in memory of fellow drag racers who have passed on.  Saturday’s race was run in memory of Ron Dibble.  Unfortunately, Ron passed away on November 15, 2009.  On the anniversary of Ron’s passing, fellow drag racer Blake Williams would race into the night Saturday, winning a coveted Wally in not only Ron’s memory, but while driving Ron’s very own race car in the King of the Track race.  Way to go Blake!

The weather couldn’t have been better Saturday as the Arizona Drag Racing Association and American DRAGCAR prepped for a day of racing on the dragstrip at Wild Horse Pass.  Both race groups finished their time runs around 2 pm and eliminations kicked off around 3 pm.  With just under 175 cars in total, the racing would certainly carry on into the night, finishing under the lights.

Running through elimination rounds, the most consistent of Saturday’s bracket racers would slowly rise to the top as they through eliminations into the evening and the final elimination rounds.

King of the Track

Arizona Drag Racing Associations's (ADRA) Memorial Race
We already gave it away above, Chandler’s Blake Williams won the King of the Track in Ron Dibble’s ’66 Nova.  Considering the day, it couldn’t have worked out better for Blake, but it was no easy task as he faced Mark LaLonde’s dragster in the finals.  They each worked their way up the ladder during three elimination rounds to make the finals.  Once on the line, Williams got off the line first with a .020 light against LaLonde’s .045.  LaLonde ran too fast after putting up an 8.326 at 152.87 mph on an 8.35 dial.  Blake took the win with his 10.855, 121.14 mph pass on a 10.82 dial.  Congratulations on the Wally Blake!

Tucson’s Phil Watkins would face Sho Low’s Tim DeBrocke.  DeBrocke in his ’68 Dodge Dart and Watkins in his ’89 Chevrolet Beretta. Watkins got off the line first with a .054 light against DeBrocke’s .073.  Watkins ran his number, running a 9.001 on 9.00 dial at 149.65 mph for the win.  DeBrocke ran a 10.94 at 118.61 mph on a on a 10.92 dial.  Congratulations on the win Phil!

Super Pro

The Super Pro finals would see Tempe’s Mark Darsow and his ’02 dragster meeting Bryan Downing and his ’79 Arrow on the starting line.  When his tree dropped, Darsow went red by -.001 giving Downing an easy victory.  Downing had a .024 light and went on to run a 10.925 on at 132.08 mph on a 10.90 dial.

American DRAGCAR Race Results

Arizona Drag Racing Associations's (ADRA) Memorial Race
American DRAGCAR would see its own Jeff Sefranek of Phoenix and his ’65 Mustang and Scottsdale’s Rick Lagno and his ’75 Monza meeting at the tree in the finals.  Jeff got off the line with a .021 light, running a 11.052 at 123.19 mph on an 11.05 dial.  Feeling the pressure of having to run Sefranek down, Lagno went red by -.011.  He ran a 10.413 at 128.18 mph on a 10.40 dial.

Arizona Drag Racing Associations's (ADRA) Memorial RaceIt wasn’t just ADRA and American DRAGCAR running on the track Saturday as they had a Test n Tune lane open.  Nick Kincade showed up with his forced induction AMP tuned Mustang and hung a wheelie that anybody would have been proud of.  We know the wheelie wasn’t what he was looking for as far as launching, but it sure was impressive.  Nick would lift the front wheels one more time on the same pass after getting back into the throttle as he motored down the track.

Thanks to Jessica Cherry in Timing & Scoring at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park for Saturday’s race results.
