Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Qualifying Cut Short by Gusting Winds

Chandler, ARIZ. (April 25, 2015) – The Lucas Oil Valley of the Sun Drag Boat race is running this weekend on the lake at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler.  Some of the fastest boats in the world will be competing for a victory on the water Sunday as they launch their nitro Top Fuel and Top Alcohol powered beasts against Mother Nature’s elements at the lake.

In preparation for Sunday’s final elimination rounds, Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing began qualifying for the Valley of the Sun Spring Nationals on Saturday morning.  Throughout the day, racers running in classes from Personal Watercraft to the all out Top Fuel Hydro classes tuned their hulls for the conditions on the lake.

Final qualification and elimination rounds will run on the water on Sunday.  Head on out to the lLucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Qualifying Cut Short by Gusting Windsake at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park to check out some of the fastest boats in the world.

Coming into Sunday’s race, Spirit of Texas Top Fuel Hydro Pilot Scotty Lumbert is the current points leader.  Nitrochondriac’s Bryan Sanders is in a close second followed by Problem Child and Todd Plate.

Rick Allen and Total Kaos rolled into Phoenix No. 1 in Top Alcohol Hydro points.  Piloting the Running With Scissors, Andy Reynolds is in second and Mike Fry and the Mean Streak II are in third.

In Top Alcohol Flat, Shazam pilot and current points leader Tony Scarlata suffered a leg injury during qualifying on Saturday.  Tony’s injury requires surgery and he will be unable to compete this weekend.  Don Baucher and Habit Forming rolled in No. 2 and Bill Miller and Party to the Max are currently third in points.

Bottom Up and Ryan Baxter are currently first in Pro Mod points.  Livin Tha Dream’s Marty Logan is second and Freak Show and Vic Esposito are third.

Short Fuse’s Travis Tuttle is the No. 1 points leader in Pro Outlaw.  Terry Kain and Racing Kain are 2nd and Split Decision 2 and Shannon Beal are 2nd in points.
