Wild Horse Pass Team Summit Races for a Wally

Chandler, ARIZ. (June 12, 2016) – Wild Horse Pass Team Summit drag racers were able to take advantage of somewhat cooler temperatures as they raced for a Wally Saturday night at Wild Horse Pass Motorpsorts Park.

After dialing in their race cars, dragsters and motorcycles, Team Summit members raced through the ladders, ultimately putting the top two in each class on the starting line for the final round of eliminations.

In Sportsman, Mesa’s Jeff Ford and his .70 Challenger met Tucson’s John Amstutz and his ’78 Camaro Z/28 in the finals.  Ford was the first off the tree with a .030 light against Amstutz’s .066, but Amstutz would take the Wally with a 11.977, 108.72 mph pass against Ford’s 12.860, 110.27 mph pass.  Mesa’s Jim Mower and his ’62 Fairlane was the No. 1 qualifier.

Pro saw to of the Valley’s finest drag racers paired in the finals as Gilbert’s Tanner ‘The Kid” Sundstrom” and his ’71 Nova met Sun City’s Seth Polvadore and his Three Amigos Tequila sponsored ’79 Ford Fairmont on the starting line.  Tanner left with a .013 light chasing down Polvadore who left on a .029 and went on to run a 8.864 at 148.20 mph.  Polvadore ran a slower, but winning 10.429 at 126.90 mph for the Wally.  Mesa’s Kyle Holbrook and his ’66 Mustang was the No. 1 qualifier.

Mesa’s John Burke and his ’12 Yancer dragster would meet the No. 1 qualifier, Phoenix’s Mike Zimmerman and his ’10 Yancer dragster at the tree for the final round of Super Pro.  Both got off the line with excellent reaction times, Burke with a .006 and Zimmerman with a .004.  Zimmerman went on to run a 7.810 at 173.32 mph for the win and the Wally.  Burke ran a 8.400 at 156.46 mph.

Riding her ’01 Buell, Chandler’s Patty Bluett faced off against Glendale’s Tyler Anderson on his ’04 Hayabusa.  Bluett left with a .112 light and went on to run a 11.123 at 116.84 mph, but it wouldn’t be enough to take out the No. 1 qualifier.  Anderson left with a .033 light and ran a 10.046, 117.79 mph pass for the win.
