The Score International 2016 Rosarito Beach Desert Challenge

Rosarito Beach, Mexico (Septembet 25, 2015)  – Roger and Elise Norman and the entire Score International staff have found a great venue for the Desert Challenge.

The 2016 Score Rosarito Beach desert challenge is the 20th running of the event although this was the first time it was held in Rosarito Beach, Mexico The location on the beach for the introductions and live feed on the big screen makes this a winning location for the event. The weather was perfect all weekend.

The race course is a demanding 32.5 mile section of desert just outside Rosarito Beach, the competitors were in 5 separate groups competing in the unique 2 lap per day 2 day race. Moto and Quad ran the entire race on Sunday. They start individually with time interval spacing; it did develop into some side by side racing since some classes ran with others that perform at different levels. It was no surprise that the UTV class was nearly as fast to finish as any class; the course was tight and well suited to the far less powerful but much more maneuverable vehicles.

PRO UTV Forced Induction Marc Burnett driving the #2905 Monster Energy Polaris XP RzR took top honors in his class finishing the 4 lap race in 3:14:30

Mike Cafro in #2975 Polaris RzR was runner up at 3:19:14.

The Trophy truck and Trophy truck spec class was very exciting to watch due to the raw power and high top end speeds, although they were few of the long runs for them to get going before the demanding climbs and turns slowed them down.

Trophy Truck: Juan Carlos Lopez driving the #18 Ford PIN Mfg. RPM Racing took overall with a time of 2:57:32,

Billy Wilson in the #15 Jimco 4 Wheel specialties Bevly Wilson Racing truck took first on day 2, finishing runner up for the weekend and still remains atop the points chase in the 4 race series for 2016.

Trophy Truck Spec : Elias Hanna #274 Chevy Time 3:09:01

Runner up Rudy Iribe #252 driving for Gonzallo Pirron Custom Time 3:19:02

The event headquarters is the Rosarito Beach Hotel, its ocean front location and excellent amenities proved to be the ideal jumping off point for the weekend.

The awards banquet and the host activity location of the weekend is Papas & Beer on the beach.

I feel everyone was pleased with the outcome and it should return for 2017.
