NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Teams Set to Make History at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

Chandler, ARIZ. (February 24, 2017) – Qualifying for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series’ Arizona Nationals fired up Friday morning at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, fulling the air with the fumes of race gas and the sounds of 10,000 plus top fuel beasts.  Over the course of the day new records would be set at the Pass.

During testing a few weeks back, Courtney force ran a 3.804 at 333.33 mph, a record run had it been during a national event.  Today she came for the first round of qualifying in he Advanced Auto Parts John Force Racing Camaro and laid down a 3.838 at 332.67 mph, setting a new track record in the process.  She currently holds the No. 1 qualifying spot heading into Saturday’s qualifying session.  It’ll be a tough number to beat, but on the very same qualifying pass, Matt Hagan was just .001 slower with his 3.839, 329.67 mph pass.

In another girl beats boy qualifying run, Leah Pritchett and Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher would be the last pair of Top Fuel Dragsters to run down the track during Friday’s qualifying session.  Pritchett not only beat “The Sarge” in her Papa Johns Pizza Top Fuel Dragster, but she set an unofficial record of having the quickest pass in NHRA history after running a 3.654, 331.85 mph pass.  Her earlier run was a 3.677.  Schumacher wasn’t far behind Pritchett with his 3.667 run.

In Pro Stock, Jason Line had secured the No. 1 qualify spot with a 6.509, 212.19 mph pass in his Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro.  His teammate, Greg Anderson holds the No. 2 qualifying position with a 6.522, 211.73 mph pass.

Qualifying continues Saturday.  It’s anybody guess who will be breaking records this weekend at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.  Final elimination rounds will be running on Sunday.  Visit racewildhorse.net for more information.
