GoodGuys Autocross Action at the Good Guys 8th Spring Nationals

Scottsdale, ARIZ. (March 12, 2017) – The GoodGuys Rod and Custom Association was in town this weekend with their 8th annual GoodGuys Spring Nationals car show, bringing the GoodGuys Autocross with it.  While show goers were checking out the rides on display, many others were watching the fast paced action on the Autocross course.

Driving the RideTech ’72 Corvette in the Pro class, Chris “Smitty” Smith had a commanding lead with a best time of 34.227.  Greg Thurmond was second best in his 1965 Chevy Corvette with a time of 34.366.  Next up was Mary Pozzi and her 1972 Chevy Camaro with a time of 34.619, then Casey Cronin in his 1972 Chevy Corvette with a time of 35.197.  Bret Voelkel and his 1967 Chevy Camaro round out the top five with a time of 35.353.

In Street Machine, Keith Corrigan, driving his 1968 Chevy Camaro put up the best lap time with a 35.725.  Cheryl Herrick and her 1967 Chevy Nova ran second best with a lap time of 35.859.  Driving his ’69 Ford Mustang, Richard Trujillo put up a third best time of 35.938.  Rob MacGregor and his 1968 Chevy Camaro were next with a lap time of 36.025.  Jane Thurmond and her 1965 Chevy Corvette rounded out the top five with a lap time of 36.454.

With just two entries, Tom Hull put up the best lap in his 1936 Pontiac Silver Streak with a time of 39.945.  Howard Schroeder and his 1924 Dodge 2-Door Coupe ran a time of 46.080.

In Truck, Mike Sullivan drove his 1965 Chevy El Camino to a best lap of 37.681.  Bill Kinsman and his 1972 Ford Bronco were second with a time of 38.360.  Randy Honkala and his 1966 Ford F250 put up a lap time of 44.905.

One of our favorites was Dave Carroll’s 1975 Datsun 280Z running an LS and pounding the pavement.
