The Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series’ Valley of the Sun Spring Nationals is Running at Wild Horse Pass this Weekend

Chandler, ARIZ. (March 31, 2017) – Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series teams are putting it all on the line on the lake at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park this weekend as they compete in the Series first event of the 2017 drag boat racing season.  Top Fuel Hydro, Top Alcohol Hydro, Top Alcohol Flat, Pro Mod and everything down to Personal Watercraft will be competing for points on the lake.

Friday’s test and tun session had a bit of wind blowing across the water.  That along with the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series’ starting line being shortened from 125 feet to 50 feet made for a new thought process for drivers as they launched off the ropes before running down the quarter mile course.  The change was made to slow down some of the faster boats, giving them less time to build speed as they race down the quarter mile/1,000 foot (depending on class) track.

The change would not help Top Alcohol Flat driver Jeff Steward.  Jeff left the line pulling the bow of the boat into the air.  When the bow came down, Jeff’s Flat took a hard right, rolling the boat and ejecting the capsule.  The safety crew recovered him and he was ok.

Lucas Oil Drag Boar Racing Series’ qualifying begins Saturday morning at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park Saturday morning. Head on out and check it out for yourself.  Eliminations rounds begin Sunday morning.
