Final Elimination Rounds from the 2017 Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series World Finals at Wild Horse Pass

Chandler, ARIZ. (October 6, 2017) – The 2017 World Finals of the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series was run this weekend on Firebird Lake at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.  Participants piloted everything from jet skis to nitormethane powered Top Fuel Hydro race boats.

The weather couldn’t have been better for Lucas Oil’s last Drag Boat race of the 2017 season.  With temperatures in the 70s to low 80’s, the World Finals not only had the pits full, but also the stands and motor home parking area alongside the lake.

Racers took Friday and Saturday to qualify for their respective classes before heading out on the rope for Sunday’s elimination rounds.  Prepping their race machines Saturday evening to perform at their best during eliminations.  Nobody wants to be sent hoe on the trailer without a victory.

Just after the sun set on Saturday evening, former Liquid Voodoo Top Fuel Hydro pilot and now NHRA Top Fuel Dragster driver Scott Palmer put on a show for the fans.  In showing his thankfulness to sponsor Tommy Thompson, Palmer and his team made their way to Wild Horse Pass with their Top Fuel Dragster on their way to Pamona for NHRA’s last race of the season.  As Palmer and Thompson, who is also a Pro Outlaw boat pilot rarely have a chance to cross paths, Palmer showed up to show Thompson what his sponsorship dollars can do on the dragstrip.

After wrapping up their duties with the World Finals, the crew at Wild Horse Pass began prepping the dragstrip for Palmer’s run.  Many of the fans and race teams stuck around for Palmer’s pass, and they were disappointed.  After doing his burnout, Palmer staged his CatSpot/Tommy Thompson Motorsports dragster.  Palmer staged and launched down the dragstrip, putting huge flames in the air while running a 3.88 at 310 mph.  The fans loved it.  Nice job Scott.

Elimination rounds continued Sunday with just a couple of incidents.  Mike Robbins in Nitro Nuts took on water and sank on the rope during the National Anthem.  Scott Compton in Liquid Voodoo hit a piece of timing equipment, damaging the fiberglass between the left sponson and hull.  On his next run out, Luquid Voodoo pulled left and slid up onto the island.

After a long day of racing into low light conditions, the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series 2017 World Final winners emerged as final elimination rounds were run.  Scroll down to see all of the 2017 winners.
