Johnny Sauter Wins the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix Raceway

Avondale, ARIZ. (November 12, 2017) – Though Christopher Bell rolls into Phoenix Raceway for Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Lucas Oil 150 number one in points with 3,135, Johnny Sauter is not far behind with 3,131.  Behind Bell and Sauter, Matt Crafton, Austin Cindric and Ben Rhodes round out the top five in points coming into Phoenix.

After qualifying, Christopher Bell took the pole and would start in the No. 1 position under the lights at Phoenix Raceway.  Qualifying No. 1 and No. 2, Bell and the No. 18 Toyota of Noah Gragson dominated much of Friday night’s race.  Between the two, they led 145 of the 150 laps.

Gragson was out of the race late in the game after on lap 142 after he got loose coming out of turn four, collecting Justin Haley in the process.  Both came to rest against the infield wall along the front straight.

Johnny Saughter starter 9th, but took the lead late in the race with just a few laps to go after the No. 4 of Bell had to pit for fuel.  He would ultimately take the Lucas Oil 150 win and continue on to Homestead for the last race in the playoffs.

After the race, Johnny Sauter had to say “It feels pretty damn awesome,” whose victory at Texas Motor Speedway last week clinched his spot in the season finale. “I just can’t thank these guys at GMS enough. Our ISM Connect Chevy was really good on the long run. Those red flags at the end, I was a little suspect about it. But I knew if I got a good restart, I could get down into Turn 1. That was my strong suit all night, getting down into Turn 1, and it set me up for a good launch off the corner. I’m just so proud of everyone at GMS, Chevrolet, Hendrick horsepower. That’s fun.”

Sauter took his first win at Phoenix Raceway during the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Lucas Oil 150.  He’s placed in the top five five times and has seven top ten finishes at the raceway.

Gates open at 9:00 am for the NASCAR XFINITY Series Ticket Galaxy 200.  The race starts at 1:30 pm.
