NHRA Top Fuel and Pro Stock Teams Wrap Up Spring Training at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park

The med and woman of NHRA’s Top Fuel and Pro Stock teams were in the Valley this past week testing their tunes and rides in preparation for the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing season.

Beginning on Wednesday, the smell of nitro was in the air at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park as Top Fuel Dragster and Top Fuel Funny Car teams warned up their cars in the pits before taking the horsepower down to the dragstrip.  After warming the tires with a thundering burnout that could only come from a Top Fuel car, drivers and their teams staged their cars in the beams before hammering down the 1,000 foot drag strip at speeds in excess of 330 MPH.

By the end of the weekend’s test session, Don Schumacher Racing’s Leah Pritchett set the low E.T. of the session in Top Fuel Dragster after running a 6.664 at 334.73 MPH in her Mopar SRT Dodge.  John Force Racing’s Brirany Force was not too far behind with a 3.692, 328.06 MPH run in her Monster Energy Top Fuel Dragster.  San Jose, CA’s Mike Salinas rounded out the top three with a 3.733, 325.53 MPH run Scrappers Racing Top Fuel Dragster.

Matt Hagan piloted the Don Schumacher Racing Mopar SRT Dodge Top Fuel Funny Car to a low E.T. of 3.843, 332.84 MPH pass to set Low E.T. of the session.  Team mate, Ron Capps ran a 3.843, 327.90 MPH pass in his NAPA Know How Top Fuel Funny Car.  John Force Racing’s Rober Hight rounded out the top three of the session with a 3.880, 332.02 MPH pass in his AAA of Southern California Top Fuel Funny Car.

Pro Stock driver Erica Enders-Stevens was quickest after laying down a 6.572, 208.97 MPH quarter mile pass in her Melling Performance Chevrolet Camaro.  Greg Anderson was second quickest with a 6.595, 209.20 MPH Pass in his Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro.  Jeg Coughlin Jr. ran a 6.611 at 208.46 MPH in his Jegs.com Chevrolet Camaro to round out the top three in Pro Stock.

After leaving Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, these NHRA Pro teams will be heading to Auto Club Raceway at Pomona to compete in the Lucas Oil NHRA Winter Nationals presented by Protectthe Harvest.com.

NHRA and its full compliment of drag racing classes from Sportsman to Top Fuel will be returning to Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park February 23 – 25 for the NHRA Arizona Nationals.
