IndyCar Test is Free and Open to Race Fans on Saturday

PHOENIX – Takuma Sato was fastest in the first session of this weekend’s IndyCar Prix View open test at ISM Raceway, which was the first test of the 2018 Verizon IndyCar Series aerokit at the one-mile oval.

Sato, who switched teams to Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in the offseason, led the field with a lap of 187.022 mph. All 23 drivers scheduled to run took to the track in Friday’s first session. The top five also included Simon Pagenaud, Tony Kanaan, rookie Matheus Leist and Sebastien Bourdais.

Friday’s two test sessions were open to the media, but Saturday’s test is also open to fans. Attending the Prix View is free and offers fans the chance to meet their favorite IndyCar drivers at an autograph session. Gates open at noon, and wristbands will be given out to fans on the DC Solar Power Pavilion to attend the autograph session. The first test will be from 1-4 p.m., and the second from 6-9 p.m., with the autograph session beginning at 4:45 p.m. near Canyon 1.

When asked about grandfather Mario Andretti’s final victory of his open wheel career, Marco Andretti commented on coming back in April for the Phoenix Grand Prix on April 8, “Yeah, I mean, there’s potential we have something up our sleeve as a team which we can’t announce yet. But that would be pretty cool. Yeah, to win here, commemorating that win, would be awesome.”
