Kingman, ARIZ. (May 8, 2018) – Hundreds of people from across the globe make their way to Kingman, Arizona each year to take part in the Route 66 Fun Run, a rolling car show that travels through Seligman, Kingman, Topock and other parts of Northwestern Arizona.

Dirk arrived in Seligman around 9:00 am. The first stop was the Roadkill Café and Saloon for breakfast. Their slogan is “You Kill It, WE Grill IT!”. Dirk hasn’t tried bringing in any road kill yet. Dirk then parked in front of the famous Delgadillos Snow Cap. Participants were arriving all day as there was over 800 cars registered for the 2018 Fun Run.

Angel Delgadillo has a very special relationship with the road called Route 66. He was born in his family home on April 19, 1927 on Route 66 when the roads from Chicago to Santa Monica were first being connected to form the newly created “U.S. Highway 66”

“Seligman wouldn’t exist without Route 66. And Historic Route 66 wouldn’t exist without Seligman and a very prominent resident, Angel Delgadillo.” Angel is the official overseer of Route 66!

On April 23rd and 24th of 1988, the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona held a dedication of the newly historic road. The Historic Route 66 Fun Run Car Rally and Show had a total of 153 cars register to drive Route 66 from Seligman to the California border and participate in the events in Seligman and along the route.

Angel still plays nostalgic music with his bands next to Delgadillo’s Snow Cap. Visitors get a burger and shake then listen to the music as hundreds of cars parade by.

On Saturday morning the cars line up to travel old route 66 from Seligman to Kingman for the Fun Run Car Show.

The third component of the Fun Run is the awards presentation. The rules have been changed so that participants had to be present to accept an award.

Sunday morning people start arriving at the Powerhouse in Kingman. Around 8:00 am people start the trek to Topock by traveling Route 66 through the mountains. Plenty of ups, downs, and hairpin turns. When you arrive in Oatman you are greeted by the donkeys in town looking for people to feed them grass pellets.

The old mining town is a favorite Route 66 tourist attraction with many shops, places to eat and have a cold drink.

Then it is on to Topock. Actually it is a activity center for the Golden Shores community.   There is plenty of parking space and a large room for the event. Now everyone that makes the trip has some idea they may have been selected for an award. “All the cars that arrived in Topock look like winners to me!” says Dirk.

Mesa, AZ’s Dirk part in the 2018 Route 66 Fun Run.  While there, Dirk took hundreds of photos for Arizona Auto Scene viewers to check out.
