ASCS Winged Sprints and More Running at Arizona Speedway Celebrating Independence Day

San Tan Valley, ARIZ. (July 1, 2018) – On the brink of Independence Day, the ASCS Winged Sprints, San Tan Ford IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks and the Horne Ford Bombers were competing on the dirt oval Saturday night at Arizona Speedway.

After the heat races, the Pure Stocks were the first to take to the dirt for their feature race.  Starting in 6th, Darryn Werkmeister worked his way through the pack to take the checkered flag.  Kevin Parker took 2nd and Don Berner rounded out the top three.

Next out were the San Tan Ford IMCA Modifieds.  Chaz Baca qualified 8th and drove the Modified to the checkered flag for a first place win.  Darin Center took 2nd and John Morris took 3rd.

After a fireworks show to celebrate Independence Day, the feature racers of the night fired up and the drivers and teams of the ASCS Winged Sprints readied to race.  During the race Bruce St. James rolled the No. 7 after making contact in turn 1.  Running a strong race and fighting for first place, the No. 148 of Don Grable got sideways late in the race and drove over a tire barrier, putting him out of contention.  The No. 45 of Jeff Lowery started on the pole and led most of the race until a late race pass by J. T. Imperial cost him the win.  Imperial took the checkered flag for the win.  Lowery crossed the finish line 2nd and Joshua Shipley came in 3rd.

Doing double duty, after taking the win in his Modified, Chaz Baca figured why not?  He jumped into his Bomber at the end of the night and drove the 61M to the checkered flag for his second first place finish of the night.  Congratulations!  Glenn Branham Jr. placed 2nd and Jacob Harmon took 3rd.
