Tucson, ARIZ. (October 6, 2018) – Maggie and I first met Buddy Althouguia at a weekly cruise-in on the East Side of Tucson in August, 2011. We have since had the good fortune of running into Buddy and his wife Nel at numerous automotive events throughout Arizona.
Other than his good natured and outgoing personality, one of my fondest memories of Buddy comes from January, 2012. Maggie and I were covering NASCAR at Phoenix International Raceway. Walking around the outside of the fenced area closed to the public with thousands of dollars in equipment, you have to pay attention to your footing as the concrete is uneven. I just happened to look up into the stands and out of nowhere, there is Buddy frantically waving his arms in an attempt at getting my attention, which he did in a sea of race fans.
Buddy’s efforts to say hi in what was the most unlikely scenario to run into each other that day brought a smile to my face that will always be remembered.
We were recently saddened to hear of his passing after battling cancer.
Our condolences to Nel and your family.
Rest In Peace Buddy. You were a great person and will always be remembered.
