The K&N Filters Southwest Showdown by Agent 1320

K&N Filters Southwest Showdown

Tucson, ARIZ. (March 13, 2019) – The second major drag racing event in a row went down at Tucson Dragway, March 7-10. Promoted by well-known duo, Shaun Langdon and Chris Forsythe, the four day race attracted 231 race cars who had several chances to win big $$$$ and other prizes. The third annual SHOWDOWN played out with some continuation of the winter weather, but finished on Sunday with a typical Arizona day of perfect sunshine. In the highly crowded Super Pro category, there were three $10,000.00 checks plus one for $20,000.00. Pro section winners ran for $4,500.00 but paid less for their entry.

Event promoter Chris Forsythe presents a coupon for a new Lincoln MIG welder to Tibor Kadar for claiming the most points during the four day SOUTHWEST SHOWDOWN.

Big check (10K) winners were: Lori Warden; Peter Biondo; & Andy Morris. $4,500 victories were claimed by Tibor Kadar; Tony Marconi; & Matt Hawk.

Additionally K&N presented two giant 64 car Bonus fields. These were scheduled for Pro on Friday night with a $10K bonus, as Super Pro raced on Saturday for $20,000.00!  With cold and windy weather as the sun went away on Friday, Officials decided to offer both 64 car Special Events on Saturday. Racing continued until nearly midnight, with the $20 Grand going to Ken Whitfield and the Pro title and another $10,000.00 was claimed by Peter Biondo.

As we stated above, Tibor Kadar was the Friday Pro Winner, and he was Runner-up again on Saturday. He continued to score round wins throughout the entire event. The result was the 2019 Shootout Points Championship for the hardnosed driver from Peoria. AZ. His prize was a new Lincoln MIG welder!

Best Appearing Car award was claimed by Canadian Kale Menzel from far away and still below 0, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The wild wheel standing Dodge Dart claimed a Runner up to Tibor on Friday and was a crowd favorite throughout.

For the second consecutive week end, track owner Jim Hughes with manager Matt DeYoung worked tirelessly to make sure the track was prepared for all races. Announcer Nate Hirschi was a welcome guest from his duties at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Chris Forsythe did a great job making certain that all winners got their prizes, in lieu of partner Shaun Langdon who was in Florida with his ‘Big Show’ Funny Car Global Technology team. They are already planning for Shootout IV at Tucson in 2020.

Until next time, Jim Baker
