NHRA Fuel Teams Test at Wild Horse Pass Prior to the 2020 NHRA Mello Yello Season Opener in Pomona

nhra

Chandler, ARIZ. (January 30, 2020) – Prior to the NHRA’s 2020 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series’ season opener with the Lucas Oil Winter Nationals in Pomona, fuel teams are testing at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park right here in Chandler, Arizona.

Though both test sessions are closed to the public, fuel teams are putting their new hot rods through their paces in an attempt to take the Wally at the Winter Nationals.

While both facilities provide a great proving ground for testing, the density altitude of Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park provides better data for running in Pomona.

Team CAPCOS’s 2019 Champion Steve Torrence and his father and teammate Billy Torrence were the first to take on the track prep at WHP in their Fuel Dragsters.  Both shook the tires on the first hit.  Bob Tasca rolled up to the starting line after Torrence with his Ford Mustang Funny Car.  Running on the same surface prep, Tasca ran a 389.0 @ 326.48 mph.  Tasca was 5th in points in 2019.
