Arizona Governor Doug Ducey Declares February 16 Jimmie Johnson Day

Phoenix, ARIZ. (February 16, 2017) – NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson was at the Arizona State Capitol today to be honored by Governor Doug Ducey with his own Arizona holiday, Jimmie Johnson Day.  Johnson drives the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Lowes Chevrolet.

After taking Governor Ducey for a quick ride down Adams Street, Johnson pulled the 48 in front of the Capitol and showed Governor Ducey what it’s like to be in the car during some winning donuts.  Johnson definitely left his mark out in front of the Capitol building.

Governor Ducey presented Johnson with the Arizona Proclamation for Jimmie Johnson Day.  Johnson gave Ducey a shadowbox containing a photo of Johnson racing at Phoenix Raceway and a pair of his driving gloves.

Governor Ducey was very appreciative of NASCAR’s presence in the Valley, comparing NASCAR’s Spring and Fall races to having two Super Bowl in the state each year.

The Proclamation comes on the heels of ISC’s 178 million dollar planned expansion to Phoenix Raceway, a renovation project that will have new seating and suites onto the back stretch, removing all of the stands that are currently on the front stretch.  As of the projects completion in November, the finish line will be moved to the back stretch.

Scroll down to take in a few photos from today’s ceremony at the Arizona State Capitol.
