Joey Logano takes home Second 2020 Win with Victory in Sunday’s FanShield 500 at Phoenix Raceway

PHOENIX – Joey Logano, driver of the No. 22 Ford Mustang GT for Team Penske, earned the victory in the FanShield 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday afternoon. The win was Logano’s second of 2020 after only four races and his second career Cup Series win at Phoenix Raceway.

Logano held off nine-time Phoenix winner Kevin Harvick over the last 24 laps, including an overtime restart. Harvick would finish in second with Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson, and Clint Bowyer capping off the top-five. Pole-sitter Chase Elliott led the most laps with 93 and finished seventh.

Logano’s win came after earlier mishaps that would have devastated most teams’ chances at victory. On Lap 133, Logano’s crew was flagged for an uncontrolled tire, sending the car to the rear of the field for a restart on Lap 138. Despite battling his was back through the field, a broken jack during a pit stop on Lap 268 dropped him to 18th-place for restart with only 40 laps remaining.

“Man, we had a really, really good car,” said Logano. “We had more things go wrong today. Unfortunate situation with the jack breaking. No one’s fault. Had some good restarts, got ourselves back up there, being aggressive, having some tires there towards the end. I knew racing Kevin was going to be hard. I was figuring I was going to get hi, so I throttled up in the corner so much, I thought he was going to give me the bump-and-run, which I expected, wouldn’t blame him for

I’m out of breath. That was a pretty intense last 30 minutes or hour of the race. A lot going on. I couldn’t be more proud of this team. Two wins already in the books. We’ve got to keep this thing rocking.”

The FanShield 500 had 20 lead changes among seven different leaders. There were 12 cautions, which tied for the most cautions in the track’s history. Harvick captured the green-and-white checkered flag in Stage One while Brad Keselowski won Stage Two.
